North Carolina Trip

This weekend was about seeing my nephew at his school in NC. He turned 16 in October, and I hadn't seen him for almost three years! He's absolutely the coolest kid I know... extremely smart, funny, well-spoken, kind and affectionate.

I traveled with my mother. Definitely a trip from hell schedule-wise. We took a red-eye each way, so went two nights without sleeping in a bed. Only got a few hours in a bed the one night we were there. Totally worth it though.

My brother and his wife (the kid's parents) drove up from Florida... 10 hours each way! They were dragging pretty bad, too. The weekend was pretty low key, just hanging out with family. On Saturday, we drove up to my sister-in-law's parent's house further up the mountain. It started snowing pretty soon after we got there. Pretty big flakes... looked like styrofoam pellets! The snow wasn't so much fun later that night when I got to drive in it for half an hour. It wasn't slick though, so I survived.

Saturday night, we were hanging out at the school gym. My brother challenged me to a game of HORSE. I think the last time I touched a basketball was 1984, and I don't EVER remember actually making a basket. He still won, but I put up a good showing. It was good to be able to MOVE! My tailbone hurt so bad from all of the sitting that I did to get there.

We didn't get the camera out until after my brother and I had finished playing. So I told my nephew that I wanted to get some pictures. He said, "but you were playing with Dad." I said, "Yeah, but you're better looking, get in here!"
